The Ross Barnett Reservoir Flux station was established
in August, 2007 by Micrometeorology Laboratory at Jackson State University
in collaboration with the Pearl River Valley Water Supply District.
The site (32.43823°N, 90.03168°W) is located in the
center of Ross Barnett Reservoir, Mississippi. The Reservoir consists of
approximately 33,000 acres of fresh water with its depths of about 4~8
m and is about 20 miles from Jackson State University main campus. The
eddy covariance tower stands on a stable platform with its height about
1 m above the maximum water elevation. The distance between the tower and
shores ranges from about 2 km to more than 10 km. Besides the eddy covariance
measurements of sensible and latent heat fluxes and CO2 flux, a variety
of micrometeorological variables are also measured, including net radiation,
wind speed/direction at 4 heights, air temperature and relative humidity
at 4 heights, precipitation, global shortwave radiation, water surface
temperature, and water temperature in 8 depths.
The objectives of our research are to improve our understanding
of the physical processes that govern air-water interactions under a wide
range of weather and climate conditions.
