Students are encouraged and aided by our faculty and staff when
pursuing research and other professional opportunities.
Thanks to
collaboration with local tv channels, the Meteorology Program has
been able to offer students the opportunity to experience the
world of television. WAPT,
WLBT, WJTV,
and NWN are
some of the companies that have opened their doors to offer future
broadcasters a chance to see what really goes on behind scenes and
also to improve their forecasting skills. These co-op/intern
opportunities are essential for upcoming "tv-weather men and
women" to build confidence to deliver their product to an
audience, and also help them to strengthen their meteorological
knowledge.
Students, faculty, and
staff are encouraged to become members of related professional
organizations. These organizations help new students to get a feel
of what meteorology, physics, etc. are about, and they also help
"field veterans" to keep updated on the latest
regulations and developments in their respective fields. Such
organizations (e.g., AMS, NWA,
NOAA, etc.) offer various
services ranging from information brochures to professional
certifications.
Some of these
institution also offer summer intern and co-op positions to
students. AHPCRC, NCAR,
UCAR, and NASA,
provide students with hands-on-experience on their respective
fields. Depending in the student's performance, he/she may be
eligible to pursue full time positions at these agencies.

The Meteorology Club is composed of meteorology
majors, however we don't discriminate against anyone. The purpose
of the club is allow students to voice the opinions and contribute
to the uplifting of Jackson State University and the field of
meteorology. In the past several years the club hasn't been very
active on campus, however in the near future the Meteorology Club
will be participating in different activities campus wide. The
main focus has been to raise money. We have participated in the
Homecoming activities and sponsored a balloon sale on Valentine's
day. We hope to sponsor a recycling drive and participate in other
community service activities. |
